Aesop Rock opens up “The Gates” [Video]

Rap veteran Aesop Rock takes us into a whole new dimension with the visuals for his song “The Gates.” The track is taken from his forthcoming concept album Spirit World Field Guide,  set to drop on the 13th of November via Rhymesayers Entertainment

The title alludes to Aesop Rock’s conceptual parallel world were magic spells, rebels utilizing survival tips run amok. Backed by a synth-driven beat that sounds like a 90s video game theme music, Aesop Rock cracks open the proverbial Pandora’s box with lyrics that pack so much vivid imagery. From the opening lines ” Ram’s legs, my pizza black, my plants dead/My planet X, I might bleed green” to the hook “Snakeskin, my hood low, don’t say shit/I know both sides of that bloodlust, They’re both mud, that’s what’s up”, Aesop delivers a mix of fiction, personal musings peppered with unfiltered imagination.

The video for “The Gates” brings the song to life courtesy of director Rob Shaw, who utilizes illustrations by Justin “Coro” Kaufman, who also designed the album’s vivid cover. The cinematic piece follows some kids down a path into Rock’s parallel world filled with shape-shifting rabbit-like creatures, druid potions, tips on how to train wild snails, and much more.
