Gary Soulz unleashes his lyrically driven new EP, ‘Committed Action’

Although in 2021, hip-hop is king, it’s always a refreshing change of pace when an artist decides to ditch the cookie cutter production for something that’s more near and dear to their hearts. Hailing from Boston, rising rapper Gary Soulz does just that, as he pulls from his Honduran and Columbian background to create possibly his best EP to date, Committed Action.

At only three tracks, Committed Action‘s minimal runtime and infectious production easily allow for multiple listens in one sitting. On the DRKNIGHT produced track, “Beyond That,” we see Gary ponder over the difference between fast money and wealth. Spewing motivational one-liners over the ambitious production, he continues the tone set on the project’s intro, “Say Less (Freestyle),” which is that of calculated aggression. With the latter serving as the EP’s lead single, you can sense a sense of urgency from the Boston native, as he raps with conviction of the thumping production from Lyfe Harris. The best song on the EP, though, is without a doubt, “Yo Ya Se.” Tapping into his aforementioned Hispanic heritage, “Yo Ya Se,” finds Gary crooning in both Spanish and English, as he pens a relatable record about being apprehensive to commit to love, though casual encounters are always welcomed.

In all, Committed Action serves as a wonderful placeholder early on in the year, as he presumably works on his next full length project. Until then, check out the EP above and get familiar with Gary Soulz.
