goldenbloom excel on the miring punk-themed lament “(Great) Britain”

Punk in all it’s various off-shoots and strains is currently seeing a modern revival of sorts, with a myriad of emphatic acts, some guitar-based and some not, ushering the many shades back into the fore in one way or another. What better time to take it back to its roots, and dutifully bringing it full-circle with a gritty finesse is London-based post-punk outfit goldenbloom with their latest single “(Great) Britain.”

The single’s aperture is clear from the outset, with its bracketed “Great” and artwork complete with a mess of British staples. Vocalist Jordan Walker’s sour-tongued vocals mire on life in a post-Brexit Britain, doing due justice by addressing all manner of different platitudes and backwards mentalities. The foundation is a stomping production, cohesively executed with a driving, garage-rock themed production.

Following on from 2019’s debut project, LOVE, goldenbloom are crafting quite the arsenal of high-caliber tracks in a very short time frame, the sign of an inspired act with truly something to say.
