South London-born songwriter Tom Featherstone shares his new single “How you feeling?,” an acoustic led number that nourishes the soul.
A lo-fi, tender single with simplistic instrumentation that crafts a whole world of nostalgia, Featherstone’s soft, hazy vocals resonate with those wishing to escape the mundane realities of everyday life. With gentle guitar plucks and hushed backing from cushioned drum beats and fellow guitars, it’s a beautiful track graced with a friendly face. “I wrote this track in the early days of 2021 reflecting on how sad 2020 made me and just adopted this optimism that I wanted for the new year,” he eplains. “I produced the core of the song as a demo by myself in lockdown, and then took it to my mate, Zak, and we fleshed out the production in his studio/bedroom.”
Despite the bedroom-finishings, the track’s qualities remove the DIY feels and instead feel professional. While “How You Feeling?” is an honest offering from a young songwriter who has managed to make sense of those incredibly overwhelming feelings of being lost throughout 2020, it also feels like the beginning of something very special from Featherstone.
Telling us more about his forthcoming EP: “The whole process has just taught me a lot more about who I want to be as a songwriter as well as a producer and has taught me to have fun with my music more than before. I’m using my songs now to further my musicality, becoming more involved in the production and exploring my guitars even further.”
Tom Featherstone’s debut EP is out soon.
