Soulful dark-pop singer/ songwriter Peyton Gilliland shares a new single and accompanying haunting visuals for “Devil’s Daughter”, featuring Josh Nichols. The track is the first release of the year from this John Lennon International Songwriting Competition finalist.
With “Devil’s Daughter”, Peyton Gilliland explores the risky behaviors and bad habits that can occur when we are infatuated with someone that is no good for us. With lyrics including “I’m staring at an ocean of / Broken hearts and damaged love / Damn I’ve nearly given up / Innocence is so old school / Nobody follows any rules / and every time I look at you,” the songwriter looks back at her past affairs gone wrong while understanding the perils of falling for someone without abandon. “Devil’s Daughter” begins with moody cinematic synths, buzzing bass-lines and frenetic keys for an intriguing sonic journey. Peyton Gilliland’s soul-drenched vocals ebb and flow singing cathartic and expressive melodies enticing the listener with every note. The neo-noir inspired visuals with red hues and haunting black and white clips further the narrative of the danger that can be found in love.
At only 19 years old, Peyton Gilliland is paving her way in the pop-rock music scene. With her R&B-inspired vocals and raw songwriting full of honesty and depth, Gilliland attracted the attention of Cage The Elephant founder Lincoln Parrish who began collaborating with the teen. Now she is set to unveil an EP and we can’t wait to hear what is next from this rising artist.
