Brooklyn act Damn Jackals explore being your own rival on EP ‘Rivals’

Brooklyn quintet Damn Jackals delve into fighting our own flaws on three-track EP Rivals, which captures their potent signature sound resting between 60s garage rock and 70s glam rock through lyrical journeys contemplating on themes of vanity, addiction, pompous pride, greed and self-righteousness.

Lead track “Lovely Nuthin,” kicks things off with its proto-punk infused guitar sweeps and crisp vocals from lead singer Beau Croxton making for an uber catchy beginning to the project before the sway and sass of punk-styled “Swoon,” call for us to back up our words with action in a fierce message that expands far beyond the soaring, celebratory crescendo that tracks brings us to.

The anthemic feel of the EP is stretched to the max on explosive final track “New Broke City,” fuzzy yet gritty vocals working in tandem with lacerating guitar lines for a memorable showcase of how Damn Jackals have evolved sonically. The closer is accompanied by an intense music video “jam-packed with Warriors-style references” and a chaotic vibe to match.

Formed in 2016, Damn Jackals consisting of Beau Croxton, Sean Burke, Max Motchan, Sean McCann andMike Goehler have brought charming indie garage sounds together with powerful punk energy to create their own unique rock sound – which has seen refinement and evolution on this latest project as they build anticipation for their next full length.
