Peter Matthew Bauer drops nostalgic single “Miracles” from upcoming album ‘Flowers’

Peter Matthew Bauer is set to return this fall with his first full-length almost five years, Flowers, which will bring thoughtful song writing and layered soundscapes driven by personal experience. Bauer’s latest single “Miracles,” is an encapsulation of the themes of the record all at once, capturing dread, joy and everything in-between.

With an honest, folksy style, the expansive number is nostalgic and forward-looking, as it meditates on feelings of fear and the stillness of time during the pandemic, which was when the track was written.

Delving into the message behind the track, which Bauer finished writing on Christmas Day 2021, he says, “It’s both looking back at the strangeness of growing up, wandering an old railroad bridge with your friends and then jumping time to the present, wandering around downtown Los Angeles in the pandemic.”

Rooted in an intricate instrumentation featuring brass ensemble The Westerlies on the horn arrangement, the track’s soundscape is the most traditional of all offerings on the album. Lyrically, drawing a lot of Bauer’s own feelings and emotions at the time, the track pulls us into an intimate journey that feels like a continuum of our lives and experiences.

Produced and mixed by Bauer along with his Walkmen bandmate Matt Barrick, “Miracles,”  is a brilliant capsule of what to expect from the forthcoming album, stocked with Barrick’s drumming and Bauer’s newly honed hand at electric guitar, leaving us charged for what’s to come.
