Emerging talent Don Amirio delivers melancholic track “Hooked On,” exploring tensions in a relationship yet feeling hooked to the love you share.
Led by layered lo-fi drums and his gentle vocals laid over a gritty but chill genre-hopping R&B/hip-hop soundscape, the track sways between rap and vocals with ease built upon soulful and emotive sonics. Taken off his upcoming project, The STONR Tape, the track which draws from a Coop The Truth x Teddi Jones sample is an intricate mix of feeble vocals, heavy guitars and soft yet impactful beats.
Speaking of the track, he says, “The lyrics were inspired by my current relationship… We were arguing a lot and almost broke up, but wanted to work things out. This song captures the feeling of sometimes thinking things may not be right, yet still feeling “Hooked On” to the other person.”
Don Amirio who picked up the guitar aged nine, fell quickly in love with beatboxing and then production, to craft a musicality rooted in heartfelt self-expression. Finding comfort and catharsis in his artistry, this rising musician weaves through themes like depression, loneliness, self-discovery, and a longing for deeper connection all brought together by introspect song writing and fresh sonic twists.
