Brooklyn-born, Staten Island-raised artist Justy‘s style of neo-soul/hip-hop style has gone unnoticed and with recognition as the 2022 LGBTQ Emerging Artist, by the Music Aware Foundation, she’s definitely carving her own niche in the game. Her newest effort titled “Familiar” is the follow-up to her earlier single “Not Sure Yet”, and sees Justy teaming up with vocalist Taylor Blue and Canadian producer ZForbes. Bolstered by the sombre and soulful pads, lush keys and soft grooves, Justy details the struggles with her mental health and how sometimes it’s difficult to find the right balance between the old and the new self. For the most part, she doesn’t try to overlook the issues but rather deals with them head-on by going through the journey and experiencing each process as they occur. The record is also accompanied by Taylor Blue’s mellow background vocals thatn adds a soulful touch to the entire track. “Familiar” is a solid showcase of Justy’s inner strength and transparent vulnerability which listeners can relate to.
“Familiar” is taken from her forthcoming sophomore album(tentatively set for release in early 2024).
Justy can be seen live this summer in NYC at Capital One’s Summerstage marking her first festival performance.
