Sheffield, UK-based Indie rapper MOAN has never shied away from talking about his experience surrounding addiction and mental health. Just as his previous songs “Gratitude” and “Holy Son” shared some intimate details of his past, his new release “Bonsoir, Addict” continues in a similar vein. The reflective track is bolstered by MACI‘s sombre and punchy backdrop that sounds like the soundtrack from a chilling thriller and sees MOAN reliving the entire process of his recovery and coming to terms with the way the modern world can be with the dopamine rush of social media. It’s a far cry from a sob story but rather a graphical account of a man shedding his traumatic past, finding the steps to healing and breaking free from the social pressures and feeling of being outcasted.
The accompanying music video plays out like a documentary that captures MOAN’s life journey among other things. The visual style is quite cinematic and has a blend of cut scenes that show different sides of MOAN’s personality.
