Los Angeles-based producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Christian Blue has released his debut commercial track and first taste of his currently unnamed introductory project. The song, titled “Leave It Unlocked,” is performed and produced by Blue, taking his past experiences as a producer into a new perspective. He has found his way to solo status via a familiar path: after having worked with artists like JAWNY (formerly Johnny Utah) and Tinashe, he has decided to venture out into his own career.
This history of behind the scenes experience is translated into a killer first impression. The instrumental behind “Leave It Unlocked” is an unwinding, breathing funk groove with charisma to match the vocals. Spiraling, woozy tones are held down by a gorgeous, thick bass line. The track sounds like it’s filled with features at first listen with how Blue is able to craft so many tones and deliveries. His high-pitched, tight verses are traded for bedrock bass reframes and not only showcase his vocal dynamism, but how versatile his production can be.
