Alichè contemplates connection on “Could You?”

As winter looms and the days become shorter, West London’s Alichè pulls focus to the subtle nuance of seasonal change and its impact on interpersonal connections with her soulfully contemplative and emotionally charged single “Could You?”

With an adolescence soundtracked by the likes of John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder and Nina Simone, a clear connection was made with the vivid storytelling and raw emotive power of music. Naturally manifesting this into her own musical exploits, and flickering between nostalgic and contemporary shades of R&B, her personal and wildly melodious songwriting is always in the driver’s seat.

“Could You?” perfectly exemplifies this. Backed by simply a Rhodes and a drum machine, her voice would effortlessly take centre stage even despite this. With her sublime harmonies fleshing out the soundscape into something truly enchanting, she leaves you hanging off each pensively placed turn of phrase.

Speaking to her introspective lyricism in a statement, she shares, “Looking out at the way the world is at the moment I think it’s important to tell people we need and want them, who knows when we can tell them again. So if you want the deeper side to it, I guess I’m not very good at telling people when I need them. Then winter comes in and the days get shorter and colder, we could sometimes do with something to lift us from time to time. I know I definitely do. Writing ‘Could You?’ was accepting that, being playful and a way of seeing the better and higher sides of winter.”
