Breeze Brewin of The Juggaknots delivers debut solo LP, ‘Hindsight’

New York’s underground hip-hop veteran Breeze Brewin drops Hindsight, a long overdue debut album. The lyricist started his career in the 90s with groups like Juggaknots and the Indelible MC’s, went on to work on the critically acclaimed conceptual album A Prince Among Thieves by Prince Paul, and now steps out on a solo mission with his new project. Hindsight is a 13-track body of work that sounds like a culmination of years putting in work.  Besides handling the microphone, Brewin also produces some of the tracks alongside names like Black Milk, DJ Maseo, B-Money, Marco Polo, DJ Spinna, and more.

The project opens up with the sparse but punchy Sebb Bash produced “Gotta Love” where Brewin pays homage to ODB and reflects on life as an elder statesman. “Road Rage” is a conceptual track that uses the act of driving as a metaphor for going through life and the consequences are dire if one doesn’t slow down and smell the roses. He gives some insightful lessons on the music industry on the self-produced track “The Application” while on “Taking Notes” he shares his experience as a teacher in the school system. On another note, Brewin’s lyricism hits the peak on joints like the gritty “King Oxymoron” and the snappy “Translate It.”
To sum it, Hindsight captures the magic of what happens when an artist sticks with what they love and shares it with the rest of the world. From lyrical gymnastics, hard-hitting production, to tackling real-time issues, Brewin’s project is as real as it gets.
