Copenhagen treasures CHINAH return with their new alluring alt-pop single “Promise”. Sharing the first release since their debut album in 2018, the track sees the band evolve further into the alt-pop sphere.
Interlaced with glistening dramatics and hazy vocals, CHINAH’s reintroduction to the world has been long awaited. Glazed with sultry bass grooves and stellar electronics, “Promise” is a slice of sonic euphoria that entices you to delve deep into the feels. Drenched in fizzy production, the single swaddles Fine Glindvad’s vocals around layered synths to produce a soft-focused single. “Promise is about saying farewell and leaving something,” explains vocalist Fine Glindvad. “Because it is not a tough and bitter farewell, it is a farewell with a consciousness of taking something with you. It is a love/hate relationship with nostalgia. On the one hand, it can be a loss of memory as you are forgetting how the past occurred. On the other hand, it can be a pleasant state of dreaming.”
The double release also includes the irisdescent single “Eternal Blue”. With a hint of alt-rock underlying this one, the heady beats and glitchy sonics are capitvating. Its sonics clear cut and motivating, “Eternal Blue” is the perfect B-side.
The three-pieces’ edgy pop glaze remains an addictive sound. A showcase in immersive, dream-like sounds, CHINAH’s inimitable release truly showcases their visceral, stellar dark pop sensibilities. We can only pray for more.
