Curtis Waters caps off an impressive 2020 with latest release “Better” [Video]

North Carolina breakout star, Curtis Waters hasn’t let up since his chart-topping hit Stunnin’ broke the internet. After the rollout of his debut album and becoming a voice of the independent and DIY music scene, Waters is back with new visuals for album cut “Better”.

“Better” is an emotional and retro-infused track from Waters’s recently released album Pity Party.  Waters touches on his mistakes, issues, and goals in a final plea to win back a lost love. While the lyrics are more melancholy, the production for the track is zany and rather upbeat. With a distorted vocal sample, bouncy drums, and digitized vocals, “Better” is a modern take on the classic take me back love song.

The video, directed by Logan Fields, follows Waters on his journey of reinvention. Multiple Curtis characters, distinguished by different outfits, help bring to life Waters’s desire to become someone new. The visuals, while seemingly minimalist, actually run parallel with many of the themes of the track itself. The boxed frame, fisheye lens, and spinny camera bring the fun and retro nature of the production to life. On the contrary, the main character’s acting and ultimate failure are tied closely to the sadder lyrics of the track. This dualistic nature makes the video and track complex and a must-watch.

“Better” and its accompanying video cap off an amazing 2020 run for Curtis Waters, consisting of five music videos, a full-length album, and a chart-topping single. Each track and visual released has been a unique and exciting representation of Waters’s vast artistic vision. With such an amazing run, Waters has set the bar high for himself. Yet, he is already back teasing more funky new hits. Curtis Waters doesn’t plan on taking his foot off the gas. He is only getting better.
