Detroit rapper, 42 Dugg doubles down on his hot year with the deluxe edition of, ‘Young & Turnt 2’

Throughout 2020, rising Detroit rapper 42 Dugg has been one of the most intriguing artists of the new class. Recently signing a joint deal with Lil’ Baby & Yo Gotti, Dugg has taken 2020 by storm with his project, Young & Turnt 2. Realizing his newfound mainstream fanbase, he doubled down and added new tracks and features for the anticipated deluxe version.

Bolstered with seven new songs and two remixes, Young & Turnt 2 is one of the best deluxe release to come out in a year full of them. Adding features from Dej Loaf, Moneybag Yo among others, Dugg proves again that he’s willing to stand up with whomever. Despite this, the main takeaway I got from the project was just how comfortable he is rapping with himself. In an era of popular features and quick rises–which he’ surely benefited from–he provides a little nostalgia on this one with just how secure he is talking with the listener one on one.

Speaking on the album, Dugg said, “With this deluxe, I just wanted to keep the momentum going and stay in my bag. A few of these was supposed to be on Y&T2, so we collectively decided that y’all deserved this shit right now while we in the middle of the summer, and the middle of a controversial time.” He continued, “I’m just tryna bring the fun out, as y’all know, and I also wanted to showcase a few of the Detroit artists that everybody might not know, and give y’all a lil sneak peak before these boys turn the fuck up.”

In all, Young & Turnt 2 feels like a turning point for Dugg. Having made a notable guest appearance on Lil’ Baby’s recent album, he’s gaining new fans by the minute and isn’t bashful about letting them know what time it is. Let’s just hope he keeps up this pace.
