Emerging Swedish/Tanzanian artist DOTO unleashes her first official release “Mama’s Just A Little Girl.” The singer-songwriter actually grew up playing soccer and had dreams of going professional but something changed and her heart pulled her closer to music. This occurred after watching ‘Dreamgirls’ and she decided to harness her innate singing talents. She proceeded to work with songwriters Jade Ell and Joakim Buddee and is currently putting finishing touches on new a string of new singles. Her latest track “Mama’s Just A. Listtle Girl” is inspired by the same song from the late Tupac Shakur and sees DOTO telling the tale of a young woman who is forced to choose between having a child while still being a child herself or taking the hardest decision to terminate it. The record is made up of moody strings and warm textures with DOTO’s vocals being the focal point as she delivers a gripping performance ripe with heartfelt and heart-rending lyrics.
DOTO sure knows her onions and takes liberty with the original Tupac lyrics and flipping it to suit the narrative but still maintaining the theme of the original song.
The instrumentalists on DOTO’s “Mama’s Just A Little Girl” include Jade Ell on keys and pumo organ and Joakim Buddee on percussion and mixing duties.
For those that don’t know, the song was originally intended for an album entitled 100% Black Gold that Tupac began working on with the late Johnny J shortly after All Eyez On Me and before working on One Nation and Makaveli. As we all know the album was shelved.
