James Mantis unleashes his magnetic new EP 'Jab Step Pop'

Los Angeles-based James Mantis has crafted an eclectic EP bursting with charismatic passion. Combining a love for experimental sounds with his adoration for sports, especially basketball; he has aptly titled the release Jab Step Pop. Taking an alt-indie style and pairing that with elements of rock and hip-hop, he has concocted a distinct sound all his own.

This five-track body of work commences with “Fire Drill” co-produced by Mikey Margott from The Neighborhood. The relaxing, lofi tune emits vibes of artists like Childish Gambino and Chance The Rapper. With silky vocals and ambient soundscapes the track is so smooth and chilled out. “Seven Miles” is a song seeping with attitude. The colorful mid-tempo beats fused with his confident tone makes for a fiery standout. Mantis reveals, “I think I had the best time writing Seven Miles because I was away from everything, secluded in a beach house on the water like it was a literal dream location to write a song. That song feels the most free and Open on the EP and it’s about just not giving a fuck because I’m far away from the bullshit.”

The intoxicating talent is inspired by greats like Kanye West and Kid Cudi. Produced by Christian Lum, this EP has really allowed him to discover his most authentic sound. Every piece of the project is deeply honest and raw. So energetic yet calming at the same time, it is easy to be instantly hooked by this unique offering.
