JASMINEGOLD introduce themselves on ‘Serpent’

North Florida alternative hip-hop duo JASMINEGOLD are newcomers to an underground scene that moves so fast they already feel like they’ve been long established.  Their new project Serpent is appropriately slick and winding, a good sampler of their different styles and influences that signals a bright future for the group.

Following up on their explosive single “Conscious” earlier this year, a notable underground gem for hip-hop heads, Serpent buoys and refines the left-of-center sound that makes the duo (made up of David Nights and KJ) a burgeoning force to be reckoned with.  With every song clocking in at 2 minutes or less, no one track overstays its welcome as KJ and Nights bounce around different flows with a breakneck pace.  Standout cuts “G-men” and “Lean on” tap into the increasingly popular bounce of Injury Reserve and Zelooperz to create alternative gems that feel funky and refined while simultaneously dusty and aloof.  Additionally, lead single “Broadcast” is a raucous and brilliant cut that brings to mind the infectious early energy of fellow Floridian Denzel Curry for an abbreviated yet infinitely replay-able taste of vintage underground rambunctiousness.

It’s tough to make a sound that sticks these days, with much of alt-hip-hop saturated in Earl/Tyler imitators.  There’s a notable electricity in the underground sound of JASMINEGOLD, a fresh and engaging spin on the traditional formula.  Keep an eye on the Floridian duo to keep pushing the envelope on future releases.
