Kinney celebrates the beauty of the mind and body in “Steal” [Video]

Generating a unique appeal through her interesting mix of electronica-based production and soulful indie vocals, Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist Kinney has put forth another blessed piece of musical drama in her new visual for “Steal”, taken off of her 2020 debut EP, So Glad You Exist.

The video (directed by Kinney, Kaitlin Stewart, and Kitty Cullen and shot by Lake Effect Films), celebrates the interplay between the body and the mind as well as the relationship between polar opposites.  A notably personal and in depth view of the human body, the song (produced by Samuel Murphy) is a juxtaposition of calm guitar picking and lush synth runs that establish an aura of childlike wonder and awe.  With a strong but sedated vocal presence that calls to mind early Angel Olsen records, Kinney’s voice is a fantastic driving force for the unconventional track.  The track slowly builds and adds instrumentation until ending with frenzied drums and a still endearing guitar-driven melody.

With music that is deeply meditative and contemplative, Kinney feels a strong need to create music that transcends the need for a single listen.  Art that requires its own space to think and feel is somewhat of a specialty, and “Steal” certainly fits this mold as a gem of unconventional songwriting and unique storytelling.
