Rising experimental pop star Rebekka Louise has released her debut album, Shame Is An Old Friend. Originally a Master’s thesis project, this album has evolved into a deeply personal exploration of mental health and its impact on relationships. Rebekka aims to capture the emotional complexities faced by those struggling with mental health issues and their loved ones, describing the process as cathartic, helping her understand her own emotions and gain a deeper empathy for others.
The album features eight tracks with raw, unfiltered lyrics and draws inspiration from artists like Aurora, Maria Mena, The Neighbourhood, Billie Eilish, and Madison Beer, as well as delving into electronica enriched with live string sections. Recorded primarily in her living room, with some tracks at Tileyard Studios in London, Louise pushed the boundaries of digital instrumentation to create a unique sound.
Since her debut in 2020 with One Step Ahead, Rebekka Louise has received acclaim and continues to push the boundaries with her fresh take on the pop genre.
