Singer-songwriter Rockie Brown has been making waves as an experimental dark pop artist who aims to push the envelope with her style of progressive music. Her latest release “Tell Me Lies” is a heartfelt song that hits close to home because of her own experiences. The track dwells on having to face a family member who has lost their way to the conspiracy crowd.
Bolstered by a dark and moody backdrop made of frenzied synth arrangements and punchy drum grooves, Rockie pours her heart on wax with lines like “Break me down, confound with your fallacy. I scream your name and hope you’re in there somewhere listening. No trace of what’s left of who you used to be, you’re so far gone“, that accentuate her pain. Speaking of the track, Brown said, “This one hurts. It hurt to write. It hurt to sing, and it hurts to listen to it. But I have never shied away from a subject. It’s purging to write. My heartache was comforted by this. It’s the same for the listener, especially if you hit on a subject that connects with people. I know countless people must be going through this same thing, and it felt good to scream about it. It was like an exorcism for me.”
The visuals directed by Tanzer and Robert John Kley make use of abstract and off-kilter motifs that represents Rockie’s mind state and feelings as she tries to come to terms with the situation at hand.
