Nigerian singer Buju is indeed the go-to hitmaker in the Afropop scene and his momentum is not slowing down. On this new one, he and rising Nigerian singer Savage join forces to deliver a smooth catchy track titled "Confident." As the title suggests, this track all about being confident in one's capabilities and staying true to one's nature as opposed to faking it. olstered by Afropop producer Tempoe's warm synths and hypnotic grooves, they blend perfectly with the duo's distinct vocal styles.
Buju opens "Confident" with his signature mellow unassuming style which has garnered him quite a number of fans. He sure is having fun with this one and sings close to the 2-minute mark before Savage appears. Savage brings a different feel as well with his slightly gruff performance and hip-hop-infused swagger. As for the video, the cinematic aesthetic is eclectic and engaging from start to finish. The use of bright motifs, weird masked characters, and at times dark moody lighting makes it even more dynamic. It's definitely not the average Afropop video with chicks shaking their derriere, although there is at least one eye candy present and I ain't even mad at that.
Savage is an emerging Nigerian act who has two releases "Confident" and "Rosemary" under his belt with the Buju-assisted "Confident" being the third. He is currently preparing his debut album Utopia. The project boasts notable guest appearances from Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones, Kida Kudz, Kojo Funds, Skiibii.
