Ojerime has been killing it with her past singles and “Nothing” is nothing short of continued excellence.
South London singer and creative director Ojerime has been in the game for a good while now. Her debut Ojerime: The Silhouettes was a breath of fresh air, and introduced the world to the musician’s unique voice and take on alternative R&B production with airy instrumentals.
But it wasn’t until her 2020 project B4 I Breakdown that she’d see significant success in her fun, sexy cool standout track: “Give It Up 2 me”. Since then, Ojerime has been making waves in the R&B realm while growing artistically with every year passing.
With a project on the way, South London’s R&B princess is defining her style through heavy guitar-led, atmospheric production, and melancholic, reflective imagery in the lyrics. Following this trend set by the past two singles, “Nothing” sets the tone for what fans expect of this new era for Ojerime. The “Fang 2022” arc in her career, with production on all three singles being provided by JSTRINGS.
“Nothing” is daunting, haunting with a fender loop with a reverb effect that immediately demands your attention. Throw in some 808s and hi-hats that cruise without taking center stage of the beat, and you have the perfect instrumental for Ojerime’s style.
The production and mixing are fresh and clean, with the poignant vocal performance blending in so smoothly with the instrumental, resulting in perfect moody harmony.
Although this is technically a visualizer, the accompanying video can thoroughly be enjoyed as a music video, as the visuals really enhance the listening experience. The visuals are captivating on their own through the butterfly motif and use of orange and color, resulting in 3 minutes of being purely enamored.
Visually, sonically, and musically, “Nothing” is cool as it is luscious to the ears and solidifies the excitement for Ojerime’s next project for all fans; new and old alike.
