Rising Nigerian singer Terri returns with his new EP In transit after teasing us with his lead visuals for the song “Danger”. The 6 track body of work serves as his sophomore project and sees him working with top producers Krizbeatz and P.Priime and a guest appearance from Mugeez, one-half of BET Award-nominated Ghanaian duo R2Bees. The project seamlessly fuses rich Afropop sounds with R&B aesthetics and it revels in musicality and lyricism, which sees Terri in his element as he takes the listener on a captivating journey of love and romance.
The project opens up with the guitar-driven love ballad “Danger” and moves into the mid-tempo moody vibes of “Holy Water”. Teri sure shines on both tracks as his unique commanding vocals take center stage while the entrancing melodies engulf the records like butter over a hot knife. In “Wanna Know” he muses on a seductive lady who has him sprung and he wishes to explore her more. Over a hypnotic groove and cinematic texture, Terri pours adulation over this lady with a mix of English, pidgin Engish, and his native Yoruba dialect. The project sloe out with the Mugeez assisted “Chargie” and “No Lie.” The former is an entrancing love track that sees Terri looking for the perfect love in that woman who is his ride or die, the latter has a nostalgic and somber aesthetic and is ripe with sublime melodies and a steady groove that aims to keep the party going.
Overall, the project weaves into the rich dynamics of love and Terri’s growth musically speaking. From his own personal experiences in relationships to his artistic evolution into different sounds, the project merges both fronts and delivers something refreshing for lovers of laidback afrobeats and modern R&B.
The new EP In Transit comes on the back of a very eventful past 12 months for Terri, which saw the Nigerian artist and songwriter receive his first-ever Grammy Award nomination for his contributions to the Wizkid album Made In Lagos, while also collaborating with Grammy Award-winning producer and one-third of Major Lazer, Walshy Fire, as well as working with Ghanaian culture icon Smallgod, among other achievements, despite not releasing a solo single since 2020’s smash hit track “Come Around”.
