They Hate Change releases unconventional new single “Stunt Cams” [Video]

Underground hip-hop duo, They Hate Change has released its latest single, “Stunt Cams” along with a simplistic music video. The Tampa Bay rappers, Andrè and Vonne double as producers to create grimy beats and rhythmic bars, generating a cult following for their new wave approach to the hip-hop genre. “Stunt Cams” delivers structured verses within a cipher-style visual.

While They Hate Change has cited Slick Rick, Jam Pony Express, and Egyptian Lover as influences, this single sounds like early Outkast or Big K.R.I.T. The duo’s fast yet annunciated flow sounds like Southern hip-hop, although “Stunt Cams” has an identical sound to Chicago’s drill scene with its repetitiveness and slow bass. The two rappers are the focal point of the music video, rapping in front of a strip mall. The simplicity of the video highlights the longevity and stamina of Andrè and Vonne.

They Hate Change pushes the boundaries of defined rap by combining multiple influences with aspects of different genres. “Stunt Cams” is a preview to their upcoming EP, 666 Central Ave. set to release on August 14th. The duo’s unique sound could become a subset of the hip-hop genre and an alternative approach to trap rap.
