A bold collection of sounds that are hyperactively addictive, Wallis Bird delivers like no other. Brimming with contrasting sonics, the track’s elasticity allows it to be bounce between dark undertones and fuzzy guitar patterns to create an exciting ode to losing yourself, whether that’s in relationships or to addiction. Her talent in capturing a moment and transforming it into an exciting tale of experience is enthralling, as the single sees Bird travelling back to herself and reconnecting with the person she once was.
Discussing the loss of memory and time itself, “I Lose Myself Completely” warps its melodies into an almost anxiety-inducing speed of to-ing and fro-ing. It’s intensity is absurdly high, almost like a rollercoaster ride when your adrenaline is pumping through your veins ready to take the full impact of a drop. Alas, that heightened moment of unexpectedness and fear serves you well in the sweet aftermath.
Written about the period of time between 2019-2021, Bird’s new album Hands continues her kaleidoscopic wizardry. Featuring singles “What’s Wrong With Changing“, “Go” and “Aquarius”, HANDS is an explosion of multicolour, self-expression and reflection. As a whole, it’s possibly Bird’s most authentic work to date and it’s bloody darn good. “[The album] for me is a symbol of humanity, connection and time,” BIRD elaborates. “Humanity because, as babies, a first sign of our knowledge of existence is through our connection when we grip another human’s finger. If we don’t have hands, are we lesser humans? No. Connection, because hands represent tactility and expression, a physical language that links our imagination and our reality with each other’s. Finally, time, because some of the first examples of civilisations were hand paintings on cave walls, some of those hands missing fingers, celebrating their story of existence.”
