We’re fully ‘Immersed’ in Satoshi Tomiie’s minimal house flavours

Three years since the release of 512, Satoshi Tomiie makes a welcome return to Kaoz Theory with new EP Immersed—a collection of three pleasing originals laden with house music’s finest textures.

Bassline thrumming, “G5Hz” opens the EP with commanding overtones, filling our senses with a modulated alienation. Glitched and confidently repetitive, the percussive elements of the track swell alongside the murky synths for an otherworldly experience—one in which Tomiie punctuates with choppy stab sequences. Following, “Coincidence” lays focus on airy dub stabs, highlighting another perspective to his sound. Minimalistic in its build yet refined in its delivery, the snaking bass groove and crunchy drums paint a distinct progression that’s incredibly soothing to immerse oneself in. Finally, eponymous track “Immersed” concludes the release with a higher cadence; shuffled percussion and weighty low-end tones swirl into a well-curated whirlwind of dynamic synths, winding in and out of the composition with fluidity and sophistication. All in all, Tomiie asserts himself in Immersed to his utmost abilities—another testament to his skills and his already reputable discography.

Satoshi Tomiie has long been a respected figure in the electronic music scene with a career spanning three decades and material on some of the industries most respected imprints. From his debut on FFRR alongside Frankie Knuckles and his contributions to the esteemed Renaissance mix series through to his more recent output on the likes of Yoyaku’s Yoyakuza and his own Abstract Architecture, the Japanese born, New York and Paris based DJ, producer, remixer and label boss is still a regular feature in the sets of many of today’s underground elite.
