Zenesoul yearns to feel “Safe”

Zenesoul (pronounced ‘Zen-Soul’) is an emerging soul-singer from Brampton, Canada who made her debut in early 2019 with an EP titled WORTH. On her new release “Safe,” she delivers a heartwarming tale of being in a toxic relationship.

The Nigerian born singer sure struts her vocal cords on this solemn guitar-driven ballad and peppered by heartfelt lyrics making “Safe” undeniably touching in many ways. I do hope it wasn’t inspired by real events because the lyrics are as melancholic as they come. She really dives deep and pours it all on wax with lines like, “Every time you hold me, all you do is crush me or you destroy me, but I don’t feel safe with you.” The emotions are so thick you can picture it vividly. As we follow her story, we realize that it’s not all doom and gloom for Zenesoul and we eventually hear her rise from the doldrums by the end of the song. I do appreciate the story-driven approach which goes beyond making a ballad for the sake of it but rather puts the listener right in the middle of the action.

“Safe” is taken from her new Coffee EP. Get her full LP on all DSPs here
