‘Unmute Us’ March Sees 150,000 Join Protests Against Nightlife Restrictions

The Unmute Us movement continued over the weekend as 150,000 people joined protests against nightlife restrictions across the Netherlands.

The march reportedly stretched to ten cities, with 80,000 people showing up in the capital city of Amsterdam alone. Protestors also took the streets in provinces of The Hague, Eindhoven, Groningen, and Utrecht to fight for the return of live music and events.

Unmute Us demands that the Dutch government do away with COVID-19 restrictions on nightclubs and venues. While the nightlife industry is set to reopen at full capacity on November 1st, many establishments risk continued financial struggles or shutting down permanently in that time.

Back in August, another Unmute Us march took place as 1,000 affiliated parties from the Dutch event industry joined together including organizers, performers, staff and fans.

Unmute Us shares via the post below: “It should be clear that the response of the cabinet is not what we had all hoped for and took to the streets last weekend. They deliberately make it very difficult for our sector and still unworkable. Again we are severely muted. We won’t stop… #UnmuteUs”
