Su Lee’s “Super Happy” agenda flourishes in collaboration with Ariza

The multi-talent South Korean musician Su Lee has just released a sunny, lighthearted double single. The two tracks of the project, “Super Happy” and “Jump,” balance each other out in attitudes and musical amplitudes. Like its name, “Super Happy” is lighthearted and charged with joy–with just a hint of fear of happiness fizzling out.

In many ways, this song feels just like many of Su Lee’s previous hits, her signature flowery melody perfectly complimented by the straight-cut lyricism.

“Jump,” on the other hand, has a melody that contradicts with the certainty present in its lyrics. While Su Lee sings “…Jump into the madness / Not scared of the consequences,” she is clearly doing otherwise with the mellow, atmospheric melody. Instead of a proper bridge, the alternative pop jam ends with both Su Lee and Ariza humming peacefully and in harmony to each other’s voice.

While the double single features English, Korean and Spanish lyrics, the sentiments of joy, acceptance and reflection reflect mostly through the two artists’ straightforward yet skillful production. There’s this persistent idea of finding calmness among the melodramatic chaos of life that can be traced in lyrics, rhythm and melody. As usual, Su Lee’s genius lays in the simplicity of it all in her songwriting.
