Albert Newton goes full synth-driven indie on “Somewhere In The Dark”

The latest release by French- British songwriter Albert Newton – “Somewhere in the Dark,” unveils a captivating electronic soundscape that transcends the boundaries of conventional pop music. Renowned for his previous hit “Volcano,” Newton takes a bold step forward with a track that goes beyond mere entertainment. Influenced by artists like Harry Styles and The Weeknd, the song delves into a fast-paced universe, tackling themes of ego, the passage of time, and the individual’s role in the ever-shifting quantum world. At its core, the track pays homage to the A.L.I.C.E particle accelerator experiment at CERN in Switzerland, adding a layer of mystery and intrigue.

Speaking, somewhat enigmatically on the new single, Newton explains: “Going to a party that you don’t want to go to, learning about the particle accelerator in Switzerland and meeting a Buddhist monk in the English countryside, all have very different outcomes but they’re also linked by how they each provide unexpected moments of knowledge or “light”. I put these three together as lyrics but then they floated round for a while. It was only when my DJ friend Marine Neuilly asked me when I was going to make a song she could play during her sets that the beat appeared and the lyrics found their place” – Albert Newton

Max Baby’s production expertise, known for collaborations with Goldie Boutilier and Ichon, skillfully intertwines a galactic 80s synth melody with a punchy bass, creating a dynamic sonic experience. The upcoming debut album, promises an exploration of diverse musical influences, from Bowie to Tame Impala.
