Timeless music always works, no matter when it was released. After gaining some buzz behind a handful of loose singles, rising songstress Denae decided that she wasn't finished making the most out of those records. At 5 tracks, My Dark Place (Stripped) is a collection of breathtaking takes on some of Denae’s previously released music. Showcasing raw talent while shedding a light on her vocal gift, the stripped down versions bring more of a focus to the lyrics than the original version. While both are substantial, the acoustic version clearly has a deeper impact than the original, thanks to the minimalist approach Denae establishes in records like, "Cold Blood" and "Parasite." Her soulful, sometimes cinematic music displays her sophisticated fast-paced lyrical pop/rap vocals in which her whole spectrum of emotions are explored. Lyrically, Denae highlights the realities of mental health through her dark and honest approach, establishing her connection with the listener with poignant, yet relatable, lyrics about heartbreak and all of the woes that accompany it.
