Elizabeth shares defiant release “Happier Now” [Video]

Australian self-proclaimed “beloved patron of sad girls” Elizabeth returns with a new single and accompanying video for “Happier Now”. The new track is the first of a suite of three interconnected singles and visuals set for release this year.

“Happier Now” explores the first stage of getting over someone after an intense heartbreak and a romantic relationship that has been broken. With lyrics including, “I miss you but I don’t want it back like that / I am happier now / you’re not around / all the good that I found / now that we’re buried in the ground,” Elizabeth realizes that she is better off without her old love and has become a healthier and happier version of herself away from that person. With hints of reminiscence, she isn’t totally over the heartbreak, but she is on the right path. Musically, “Happier Now” entices with cathartic melodies sung by Elizabeth’s soul-drenched heart on the sleeve vocals. The song co-written by The Temper Trap’s Toby Dundas, further features moody downtempo electronic beats and cinematic keys for a robust kaleidoscope of sound. In the accompanying visuals directed by Nick Mckk, Elizabeth is seen in a shiny and vibrant dress singing passionately against a backdrop of darker cliffs and a wild sea, highlighting the song’s narrative of “washing clean” from a past love.

“Happier Now” is the first single from the prolific indie pop songwriter who last shared music over three years ago with her stunning debut album The Wonderful World of Nature. Openly queer and an advocate for mental health awareness and body positivity, Elizabeth is an important new Australian artist on the rise. Check out “Happier Now” and remember there are many stages of getting over heartbreak.
