After enthralling tastemakers near and far through his sonic exploration of the seasonal ebb and flow as thomTide, he returns to his original artist project with more daring audio charisma than ever before. “Evergreen, Maroon Too” is but a sampler of the cinematic masterpieces of which he is capable, but a sturdy enough sampler to provide music aficionados with plenty to lord over.
A stunning visual, directed by Juan Madrid, utilizes the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean to provide some enigmatic context for the alternative narrative of the track. Never one to drop music at face value, “Evergreen” is a cheeky nod to “my red-green colorblindness” as well as, “how it can be confusing to try and read the true colors of someone you don’t know very well.” Buoyed by lush synths and triumphant basslines, the cinematic track feels like entering a hedge maze of musical emotions, never quite sure where to look or turn next.
