New York-based indie band Rebounder just released their dreamy new single and video for “Boy Friday”. The band, who has built an avid fanbase of listeners through their relatable songwriting and crafty aesthetics, has a cinematic vibe to their music that pulls the listener in, engulfing them in a sweet escape from daily life.
On “Boy Friday”, Rebounder delves deep to express their view on the concept of time and how we relate to its effects. The push-and-pull dynamic felt by time and every passing moment can create contradicting emotions, all depending on how you look at it. Noah Chenfeld of the band further confides, “on this one we were really interested in the idea of feeling excited and optimistic about the future, while simultaneously noticing, recognizing the passage of time more and the natural pressure it puts on you to try harder to get where you wanna go.” Featuring stripped back vocals filled with harmonies, a soft rolling melody, and quirky indie rock soundscapes, the song is a welcoming listening experience despite the somewhat complex nature of its meaning. Lyrics such as “well the gates are open/ But the curtain is closin’/ And I never want to see/ what’s coming after me,” reminds us to stay in the present, because we can’t control the past or future.
In the accompanying visuals, brothers Dylan and Noah Chenfeld of the band are seen exploring the iconic scenery of Los Angeles through a nostalgic lens with famed podcaster Chris Black. Each shot captures a special memory, reminding us to cherish each moment in our ever-changing lives. Like watching a home movie, Sundance award-winning director Ben Klein does an exceptional job at capturing the essence of the song’s silver lining.
Rebounder is composed of native producer and writer Dylan Chenfeld, his brother Noah Chenfeld, and bandmates Cobey Arner and Zack Kantor. The band has toured with The Neighbourhood, Dayglow, Cautious Clay, and MUNA, to name a few. Most notably, they recently collaborated with Jesse Rutherford of The Neighbourhood on their single “Change Shapes” which showcased Rebounder as the talented, multi-faceted artists they have set out to be. Watch and listen to “Boy Friday” by Rebounder and remember to make every day special.
