Dripping Springs, Texas-born musical maestro and eclectic artist who goes by the moniker TOPAZ started his musical journey in the fourth grade busking saxophone on Austin’s Sixth Street before he spent some time in London and back to Duke Ellington School of the Arts in D.C. before going to NYU to study jazz. All these events culminated in several international tours, festival performances and showcases around the globe before he returned to his home base in Austin where he crafted 6 albums with Golden Dawn Arkestra that garnered him critical acclaim from critics. His latest effort is his debut solo EP which sees him employing sounds from Synth Pop, French House, Italo Disco, and Bloghouse. Now he returns with the captivating and off-kilter visuals for his song “Amsterdam”. The track is a rousing electro-pop number ripe with thick drums, layered sizzling synths and vocals drenched in tuning and parallel effects but bolstered by the rich and bright melodies that exude nostalgia and lyrics like “Never looking back we live in Paradise./Come, here, you sexy thing hold my hand./Just being next to you makes me so damn high /I choose the easy life as we begin again /You know the world might end that’s why we’re digging in.” that explores freedom in the truest sense.
The accompanying visuals are an eye-popping effort that uses all manner of motifs, retro-tinged cinematic set pieces and warm colouring to achieve a sense of the past with a futuristic undertone. The performance shots are laden with mild effects and set pieces that add colour and vibrancy to the overall feel of the visual.
