Good Morning Mix: Diplo shares live DJ set from Antarctica

Antarctica may very well be the last destination on a booking agent’s radar while negotiating tour dates. Music events aside, very few people get the opportunity to even walk upon the icy, virtually uninhabited landmass. Over the decades, dance music has continued to push the envelope, breaking boundaries while pushing forth into unconventional and inspiring new territories. Entering the new year, Diplo has officially crossed off the last continent on earth in which he’s yet to deliver a DJ set, Antarctica.

Partnering with wellness collective Secular Sabbath, Diplo organized a seven-day Arctic expedition last month to raise both funds and awareness in favor of Oceana, the world’s largest international advocacy organization dedicated solely to ocean conservation. Part of the initiative included a 90-minute live DJ set amidst the region’s ice-covered landscape. Seeking to promote responsible tourism, the world-renowned DJ worked closely with the IAATO to ensure a safe and environmentally conscious execution of the groundbreaking audiovisual project. Diplo shared in a statement,

“The goal of this trip was to raise awareness around preserving one of the most delicate and special ecosystems that exists on our planet while accomplishing something that has been on my bucket list for a while.”

Coining it as one of his “favorite sets ever posted to YouTube,” Diplo’s full Antarctica DJ set, directed by Cambron Lyles, is now officially streaming. Listen below to hear the chart-topping record producer draw sonic inspirations from RÜFÜS DU SOL, Flume, Glass Animals, and Four Tet, among others, all while performing live for the first time from the South Pole.
