Landing in the musical lexicon somewhere between UK icons Skin On Skin, jamesjamesjames, and Nia Archives – Australian producer and songwriter Eli is building up to the release of his debut EP I Can Be Whatever You Want Me To Be in August. His latest single, “One of These Days,” continues to build anticipation for this upcoming project.
The track captures the essence of dreaming big and embracing the journey, rather than focusing solely on the destination. Eli shares that the initial creation of the song was swift, but the production process took significantly longer, spanning nearly two years. This track deviates from the faster pace of his earlier releases like “Opening/Track ID” and “I Want To Feel Alright (feat. DoloRRes),” offering a slower tempo that provides a brief respite before the full EP drops.
Eli explains, “Not everything can be a turbo rush into a 180bpm four to the floor. I wrote this song quite quickly in a matter of an hour or two with my guitar. It’s a very simple form, structurally and lyrically speaking. When it came to producing it however, the process was a lot longer.”
Throughout the extended production period, Eli drew inspiration from various artists, resulting in a rich blend of sounds. Influences from Yung Lean’s slower tracks are evident in the synths, while Dean Blunt’s acoustic elements shine through in the latter parts of the song with the addition of an acoustic kit and saxophone.
