Boyish have shared a vibrant new visual for their song “I Think I Hate It Here”. Formed by musicians India Shore and Claire Altendahl while they were both students at Berklee College of Music, the group has blazed a trail with a series of entrancing bedroom pop releases. Their latest release however, finds them branching off from their established sound to present an energetic, spirited offering that incorporates elements of punk and alternative rock. Accompanied by a new visual that enhances the single’s lively feel, “I Think I Hate It Here” precedes their upcoming EP My Friend Mica, due later this spring.
“I Think I Hate It Here” opens with driving vocals lightly coated in distortion, underscored by fuzzy guitar riffs. The vocal performance here is captivatingly written, contain evocative melodies and relatable lyrics detailing modern young adulthood. Building steadily, the track picks up an enthralling pace through its usage of gritty, raucous drums that meld with a lively bass-line, before its energy crescendoes in an infectious chorus. The accompanying visual depicts the duo performing in a boxing ring, representative of the song’s confrontational sound and lively energy. Vibrant and engaging, the video’s raw, chaotic style makes for an exciting visual experience that makes it hard to sit still while watching.
The latest from Boyish, “I Think I Hate It Here” will appear on their upcoming EP My Friend Mica, which will follow up their 2021 EP We’re all gonna die, but here’s my contribution with a noisier, more punk-influenced offering.
