Cleveland alternative emo rock act Darling Waste power-pop meets emo production “Sheets Over Windows,” a gritty and anthemic soundscape giving away to lyrics about moving on from tragedy and broken relationships.
Led by lacerating guitars, booming beats and vocals that’s smoothly sways between quiet and powerful, the track is a fan favorite played live by the band for years, but was never recorded. With an autobiographical feel that’s a signature of Darling Waste, “Sheets Over Windows,” explores coping with loss.
Speaking of the inspiration behind the track, singer-songwriter Lance Waste explains, “I had just ended a long relationship and was basically just hanging out with friends, sleeping through the day, going to parties, and rebounding the best I could. It was kind of, have fun or die trying, I suppose.”
Having spent two decades carving out a space for themselves with their emotive alt-rock sound, nuanced with punk rock ethos and an indie folk soul, Darling Waste have gone from strength to strength as one of the most prominent underground indie emo acts.
