G. King teams with Daniel Hex for dreamy new single “2000 Life Points”

Rapper G. King enlists the dreamy, ethereal vocals of fellow Detroit up-and-comer Daniel Hex for his hazy new single, “2000 life points” that pays homage to the plight of post-pandemic creativity and artistic growth.

An artist consistently rife with tongue-in-cheek comic book and anime references, King does not shy away from the harsh realities of the collective nightmare that has been 2020 on this track.  Referencing the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and the constant fear pervading daily life while also confronting themes of depression and self-worth, the track feels accessible and balanced between melodicism and cynicism.  A perfect addition to any late-night playlist, the calm synths and distant echoes craft a stark landscape for King to really resonate on the track and further create a vibe that feels soothing while truly exemplifying the feeling of isolation.  Hex’s pitched-up vocals situated at the end of the track can’t help but remind one of Frank Ocean, gliding effortlessly as they tie a neat bow around a heavy 4-minute track.

King, although currently based in New York, has always kept close ties to his motor city roots going back to his 2017 debut album Art Thou Holy? that paid tribute to Detroit legends like Slum Village through creative sample flips and interpolations.  Since his debut, he has maintained a steady output of singles throughout 2019 and 2020, frequently collaborating with other exciting Michigan-based artists and helping grow the already vibrant music scene in his home state.
