Indie-pop singer/songwriter/producer/visual artist Huron John (real name John Wallace Conradi) returns with his new single “Arthur.” On this latest effort the Chicago, Illinois creative brings an array of sonic colors to his already vibrant sound. “Arthur” serves as the first single to his upcoming sophomore project, Cartoon Therapy.
After releasing his 2020 debut album Apocalypse Wow it was evident that Huron John had a knack for crafting sprightly songs that you can dance the night away to. On “Arthur,” the 21-year-old multi-hyphenate fuses a left-twist on pop production by utilizing a dense 2-step drumbeat and groovy pedal steel guitar chords. The track is steeped with big, radiant melodies hovering above John’s easygoing vocals and lyricism pertaining to a disastrous romantic relationship waiting to unfold. Huron John is a sonic shape-shifter and the breadth of his absorbing soundscape feels endless. When listening to Huron John it feels like summertime all the time and that feeling is priceless.
“‘Arthur’ is like if you had a time-travel machine at your fingertips during a destructive relationship,” says Huron John over email. “‘Arthur’ takes you back to second-zero of that destructive relationship – you just laid eyes on someone for the first time while having no idea the trouble this person will cause you. You are so addicted to their presence that you want to try your hardest to be something you’re not – you try to conform to what they want you to be.”
Ahead of his debut album Huron John released a pair of EPs in 2018, Never Inside and Fanta Fantasy. His second album Cartoon Therapy is slated for later this year.
