Kode PinK’s latest single, “How The Great Have Fallen,” is a playful yet poignant exploration of post-breakup disillusionment. Featuring singer/songwriter bnji, the track combines sharp lyricism with an upbeat, dance-pop production that adds a layer of irony to the song’s themes. From the opening line, “I shoulda knew Cupid had to go and give ya someone new,” Kode PinK sets a sarcastic tone, perfectly capturing the mix of disappointment and humor that often follows a breakup.
What makes “How The Great Have Fallen” stand out is the duo’s ability to transform heartache into something both relatable and unexpectedly fun. The production cleverly contrasts with the lyrics, turning what could have been a somber ballad into an energetic anthem. The accompanying music video, featuring Korean-American actress Michelle Hayoung Park, adds an extra layer of whimsy, further highlighting the absurdity of the situation.
Reflecting on the creation of this track, the duo share
“Ben initially approached us with an iPhone recording of the topline that he sang while playing acoustic guitar and we knew exactly what we wanted to do with the production. Like how funny would it be to turn this clever breakup acoustic ballad into a massive ensemble of happy instrumentation to act as the antithesis of the concept of the song. Somehow this evolved into a ridiculous music video concept of an insufferable girl being abducted by a gorilla and here we are!”
