Emerging Malaysian Swiss pop artist Timur just released her debut single and video for “Not A Criminal”. The talented artist, who has a sound that is influenced by K-pop sensations of her generation such as Blackpink 2NE1 and Itzy, is showcasing herself as a strong, authentic voice with an unapologetic message to share.
In “Not A Criminal”, Timur narrates the inner battle between good and evil that exists within us all. In the midst of conflict and struggle, it’s our character that is tested and which ultimately wins. Adversity helps to shape our character, and we acquire admirable qualities by making the right decisions. Featuring dynamic vocals over fierce lyricism and an explosive anthemic K-pop melody, the song radiates with passion, determination, and intention. Timur confides, “It’s about how sometimes your feelings can make you want to act irrationally and do things that you know are not right and just holding out for a beacon of light to save you from yourself.” In the accompanying music video for “Not A Criminal”, the narrative follows Timur and a ring of criminals as they rob a bank and deliver the money to a man facing eviction on his home. The storyline resembles a true crime series and you are left in anticipation for what comes next. A robbery, a high speed car chase, detectives at work, and plenty of colorful choreographed dancers are just some of the highlights in Timur’s visuals.
Timur has been drawn to music since the age of just four, taking to ballet and various musical instruments such as the piano, ukulele, and saxophone. She most recently signed to KRU Music, a prominent label out of Malaysia, and her music is recorded in English, Chinese and Malay to represent the multicultural and international essence of her background and artistry. Timur reveals, “Having signed with KRU Music is very exciting for me because it means a big step.”
