Returning from a creative brainstorm that sees them swimming in new ideas, three-piece National Service release their new single “Repeater”. A chunky, hard-hitting post-rock track that feels refreshingly cool, the track is the first of what’s to come from the band this year.
For most of us, the pandemic saw creativity slump. Yet, for some- including the brilliant National Service- creativity hit an all-time high. Creating the high-octane track “Repeater”, the band have unearthed a new chapter for themselves. With creashing guitars, thunderous drums and a warm, but whimsical, fuzziness to embellish, the single is a dynamic offering from a new artistic direction.
Doing everything themselves from start to finish- including mixing and producing, National Service have created something that is uniquely theirs. Reinventing, redirecting and refreshing their own sound has allowed National Service to become inspired again – something that we all terribly lacked only a little while ago.
“At the start of the first lockdown back in about June 2020, we started a ‘Round Robin’ to freshen up our writing and get out of a bit of a slump. We’d been using the same writing formula for years, but we were conscious that if we didn’t mix up the writing process, we’d end up with a load of songs that were formulaic and uninspired,” explains the band.
Taking it in turns to write different segments of the new track, “Repeater” was the end result. Deciding to change up their usual writing tactics has creates a brilliant rock-leaning track that is powered with emotion.
