North Carolina is experiencing a bit of a moment in the hip-hop scene. Looking to break his way into the party, NC native Rover Kasanova checks into our pages with his enjoyable new EP, Super Charged. While the city has always boasted conscious superstars like J. Cole and Little Brother, the recent wave of talent has endeared them to the more youthful side of the genre as well. Thanks to artists like DaBaby, Stunna4Vegas, YBN Cordae and more, the city has become more of a well-rounded force with Rover Kasanova leading the new charge.
Clocking in at a brisk 9-minutes, the 4-track EP is cleverly curated for more than one listen in a row. Utilizing pristine production that fits perfectly within today’s sonic landscape, Rover Kasanova takes the time to showcase his abilities as a lyricist. He keeps things lowkey on, “Keep Going,” and “Lessons,” while taking it up a notch with the energy on, “Off The Rip,” and “Sliddin.” On the latter, he amplifies the grand production by providing infectious melodies and quotable one-liners alongside featured artist, Sly Feva. Serving as the best song on the short, but substantial project, here’s to hoping we get more collaborations from the two in the future.
With it only being the top of the year, expect to hear more music from Rover Kasanova in the near future. Until then, press play on the EP above and get familiar with the North Carolina rapper.
