Last week, Madison-bred, Chicago-based indie rock outfit Slow Pulp released “Idaho,” the first single off of their upcoming debut album Moveys. The track marks their first release since “Big Day” in 2019.
Tracing the nostalgic, yet forward-facing trajectory of Slow Pulp’s previous releases, “Idaho” reflects the polished sound of a seasoned band gearing up to release their debut album. It traces lead singer Emily Massey’s weary musings as she grapples with self-doubt. Her willowy vocals breathe a sigh of resignation as she sings, “I’m losing all the while.” The 2000’s soft rock instrumental is tied together by Massey’s tempered yet decisive lilt.
The band had another album in the works, but scrapped it and started the whole process over again while on tour with Alex G. This decision came in the wake of a tough year for Emily Massey, following her Lyme disease diagnosis and her parents’ car crash.
Moveys is slated for release on October 9 via Winspear.
