Canadian indie-folk songwriter Ten Kills the Pack drops poetic single “Theo,” taken from his forthcoming album Thank You For Trying: ACT I. Inspired by a book of letters from artist Vincent Van Gogh addressed to his brother Theo, the track embodies vulnerabilities and triumphs of a tortured soul.
Drawn by the sharing of our innermost thoughts with a close blood relative, “Theo” is a carefully crafted piece of music, brought to life through seven years of laborious love and attention poured over the exchanges between Van Gogh and his brother.
With quivering, emotive vocals building slowly to an angelic climax, the track is carried by a soundscape of soft, sullen acoustics and rich bed of keyboards, while poetic song writing ties the transportive tale that’s simultaneously intimate and expansive.
Singer-songwriter Sean Srokais as frontman of Ten Kills the Pack, has developed a self-reflective blend of punk rock and folk, led by confessional lyricism that pulls on the human condition. The upcoming album set to encapsulate similar heartfelt messages, “Theo” which draw a parallel between Van Gogh’s journey and Srokais own struggles is soothing even as it pulls on the roughened edges of painful experiences.
