THURZ and 14KT bask in the glow of melanin magic on their single “The Queen Said”

Since about the top of the year – back when 2020 seemed like a lush field teeming with potential – Los Angeles king THURZ began treating his fans to a steady flow of new music by way of his “#MoreThurzOnThurzday” campaign. For months now, the PIMLR (Party In My Living Room) live-event creator has been releasing new digi-45’s for the people to ride to and collaborating with such notable names as Jake One, LIKE, Iman Europe, and Blakk Soul. As someone who has been following his creative push for a while now, let me say that his work has showcased an artful ambition that is too often overlooked yet absolutely necessary for hip-hop to keep keeping on. Which brings us to his most recent entry in the series, an eclectic number that is winningly titled “The Queen Said”.

Working with adept producer/arranger 14KT, our man in Cali stirs up the crowd with a gem that mixes the sort of “hustle-hard/fight-to-finish” energy that drives so many young black creatives to pursue their dreams with larger themes of faith, intersectionality, and black love. But with all that said, one of the masterstrokes of this song is the fact that it doesn’t come close to sounding as weighty as what I just described. It swirls with soul and electricity and emotion and is one of the best tracks to come from an already impressive series of releases.

Providing a little commentary on the song, THURZ explains “KT sent me the beat and he was like, ‘yo, I can hear you on this’. Especially after dropping my single ‘Black Star’. I pressed play and it instantly moved me. I saw the production as an opportunity for me to highlight the importance of Black men and women supporting each other, communication and seeing God in each other. We’re in a time filled with distraction and that message is really important right now”.

If you haven’t done so already, check out the rest of the “#MoreThurzOnThurzday” series and keep your musical antennae tuned for new drops from the Inglewood emcee.

You can stream “The Queen Said” on all streaming services via PIMLR Originals Records.
